Also known as: Azithromycin
Ribotrex is in a group of drugs called macrolide antibiotics. Ribotrex fights bacteria in the body. Ribotrex is used to treat many different types of infections caused by bacteria, such as respiratory infections, skin infections, ear infections, and sexually transmitted diseases. Ribotrex may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.
To reduce the development of drug-resistant bacteria and maintain the effectiveness of Ribotrex Tablets and other antibacterial drugs, Ribotrex Tablets should be used only to treat infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by susceptible bacteria. When culture and susceptibility information are available, they should be considered in selecting or modifying antibacterial therapy. In the absence of such data, local epidemiology and susceptibility patterns may contribute to the empiric selection of therapy.
Ribotrex Tablets are a macrolide antibacterial drug indicated for the treatment of patients with mild to moderate infections caused by susceptible strains of the designated microorganisms in the specific conditions listed below.
Ribotrex is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections of the nose, throat, lungs, bronchitis, ear, skin, soft tissues, and sexually transmitted genital and urinary infections.
Ribotrex is a semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic of the azalide class. Like other macrolide antibiotics, Ribotrex inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of the bacterial 70S ribosome. Binding inhibits peptidyl transferase activity and interferes with amino acid translocation during the process of translation. Its effects may be bacteriostatic or bactericidal depending of the organism and the drug concentration. Its long half life, which enables once daily dosing and shorter administration durations, is a property distinct from other macrolides.
